Gerry Claude June 2007 Pen & Ink
|
Gerry Claude held a lively night of demonstration with
pen and ink, encouraging all members to participate.
She started the night telling the group that she usually
doesn't wear glasses when she paints. "It helps me see
the blacks and whites - instead of squinting."
The first lesson with the group involved drawing a chair,
"just the Negative Space."
"You mean the outline?" Someone asked.
Would you sit in these negative space chairs?
experiment with Gesture drawing, an
exercise in getting the feeling, the general
posture of the person, rather than the
actual details. The model was Aaron
Miller, MAG's president.
Finally, Gerry had the group of
artists draw Portraits of our faithful
model without looking at the
paper! "Don't look down," she
chastised the recalcitrant ones
sneaking a peek.
Some of the resulting drawings
were......well, interesting.
Gerry shows off some of her outstanding
ink and pen drawings and answers
questions from guild members.
