Iris Lacoste
IRIS CHAUFF LACOSTE
A native of New Orleans.  I started
my painting career in 2001.  My brother
George and I would sit in his living room
with big Bob Ross brushes, oil paint and
turpentine smelling up the house.  I could
paint trees without a challenge, but I
couldn't master the cabin.  On the other
hand, George could whip out a cabin,
but couldn't paint a tree, and that's what
started me off.
I began teaching Bob Ross Oil
technique and Terry Madden water-
colors that same year at Michael's Art
and Craft Store, and am now currently
teaching from my home studio.
I joined Metairie Art Guild that same
year and furthered my knowledge
through workshops, demonstrations and
reading.
I became active in the guild and have
served in many positions and committees
from Programs, Workshops, Recording
Secretary, Vice President and President.
I am very proud of the fact that I was
instrumental in helping secure our guild's
first grant and helping pull together a free
Senior Citizens watercolor workshop.
Of course, no one does this alone, and
with the help from so many
accommodating members, I was
successful.
I've studied at New Orleans Academy
of Fine Arts.  I've taken numerous
workshops with Terry Madden, Tony
Couch, Doug Walton, Carol Creel,
Tanya Dishler, Kathy Stone, Robert
Guthrie,  Annie Strack and Paul Jackson.
I have been a member of many other
art guilds, but my heart belongs to
Metairie.
