DORIS COWAN
BACKGROUND:  Doris Boudreaux Cowan
is a native of Belle Rose, Louisiana.  She has
been painting Southern scenery and flowers
since 1980 with such media as oils, acrylics
and watercolors.   Influenced by her husband,
an avid fisherman, Doris began depicting fish.
Her art also has been influenced by her travels.
A trip to Medjugorje, Yugoslavia, inspired
Doris to do paintings of Jesus, Mary and the
angels. During a recent trip to the Canadian
province of Nova Scotia, she was fascinated
by the picturesque lighthouses lining the shores
along the coast. Living near New Orleans, she
is adept at painting the city's unique shotgun
houses and Mardi Gras floats and riders and
the street musicians of the French Quarter.

TRAINING: While raising her children, Doris
began taking art lessons from a high school
classmate, Polly Johnson. Doris credits Polly
with getting her hooked on art. Doris also
studied with Al Federico and in workshops
with Robert Woods, Judi Betts, Tony Couch,
Jeanne Dobi, Milford Zornes and Doug
Walton.

In addition to studying art, Doris went to
nursing school in 1974-75 and worked at East
Jefferson Hospital in Metairie, Louisiana for
the next 20 years.
